Interactive physiological effects of salinity and boron toxicity in wheat

The two stresses were applied singly and together in nutrient solution, and part of the work tested whether mycorrhiza protects the plants.

Aim: To set out the physiological effects that salinity and boron toxicity have on wheat, alone and together.

Methods: Wheat is grown in nutrient solution culture at increasing salt and boron levels, and growth, physiological measurements and tissue element contents are compared. Part of the work examined how inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizae protects the plants when both stresses occur together, under low and high phosphorus supply.

Scope: Supported by the GTÜ Scientific Research Projects (BAP) fund and completed in 2020.
