A probe for real-time monitoring of nitrate concentrations in soils
A portable probe that measures soil nitrate on site and in real time, within the LignoNANO platform.
Aim: To develop a portable sensor prototype that measures soil nitrate in real time, so that fertilizer application can follow crop demand and the environmental impact of chemical fertilizers is reduced.
Methods: The sensor relies on electroanalytical techniques with high-conductivity carbon electrodes built on substrates made from lignocellulosic waste biomass. The prototype is to be tested in synthetic media and under selected field conditions.
Scope: The project is project 3.2 of the TÜBİTAK 1004 LignoNANO platform, led by TÜBİTAK MAM.
