Our students at the UrbanFarm 2025 final: team Flourish takes first place

Başak Ayyıldız and Simay Akpınar, Molecular Biology and Genetics undergraduates who did their graduation projects in our lab under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Ümit Barış Kutman and Asst. Prof. Bahar Yıldız Kutman, represented Türkiye at the final of UrbanFarm 2025, organized by the University of Bologna and held at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm.

The competition is about turning underused urban spaces into sustainable urban farming areas, and the teams designed projects to convert an unused area on the KTH campus into a city garden. Six teams and 45 participants reached the final, where team “Flourish”, which included Başak Ayyıldız, won first place and Simay Akpınar’s team “Harvest Hub” finished fifth.
