We signed a four-year R&D protocol with Plant Factory on vertical farming

Gebze Technical University (GTÜ) and Plant Factory Bitki ve Gıda Sistemleri A.Ş., one of the pioneers of indoor soilless vertical farming in Türkiye, signed a four-year R&D cooperation protocol in December 2020. The signing meeting, chaired by Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammed Hasan Aslan in the GTÜ Senate Hall, was attended by Plant Factory’s founding partners and by the directors and faculty of the Institute of Biotechnology.

Our lab runs the academic side of the protocol and will work on the R&D prototype of Plant Factory’s soilless vertical farming system to be built on the GTÜ campus. In this system we aim to raise resource use efficiency through plant nutrition optimization and biofortification, to reduce the carbon footprint and to contribute to food and nutrition security.
